On Gift Pacts and Christmas Tags.

something you wear easy diy christmas tag

This is our first married Christmas together, so we are having tons of fun coming up with our own traditions.

We made a gift pact, which basically goes a little like this: only buy gifts that don't hurt other people. This translates that we are trying to only buy from local artists and/or companies that are committed to treating their employees ethically.

To make things even simpler, we decided to get each other four gifts: something you want, something you need, something you wear, something you read.

something to wear something you read

I had so much fun choosing gifts for Adam, though I did have a moment where I semi-panicked that he wouldn't like one of his gifts. Then he sent me a direct link to that exact thing...so I guess that means he will like it. (He sent me lots of links, so maybe he won't be able to figure out what I'm talking about here...lol.)

People often complain that men are hard to shop for, but I find it to be the opposite with Adam. The problem I run into is limiting what I get him (or getting it for him before he gets it for himself!).

I wrapped up his prezzies, and found myself in possession of zero gift tags. Luckily, I had reached the end of the wrapping paper roll...which was just thick brown paper and not a real roll. I cut little rectangles out and made my own tags. Add a sharpie and some ribbon and voila. Christmas magic.

On The [Rainboots & Beef] 12 Days of Christmas: Day Three.

I'm currently writing a 12 days of Christmas series. If you missed any of the days, start here!

Day Three:
3 of my Favorite Christmas Songs.

3. "The Best Gift of All."
via
We had this CD in our family's Christmas music collection when I was a child, the 1994 edition. Hearing the first song on that collection immediately brings me back to Christmases of old: complete with the smell of pine needles and cheese fondue, and the sight of colorful twinkling lights on our Christmas tree (covered in hot-glue-caked ornaments made by tiny hands).

2. "O Holy Night."

FALLLLLL ON YOUR KNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES.

Enough. Said.

1. "Baby, It's Cold Outside."

I love how She & Him reverses the roles in the story this song tells. While I love Zooey, I wish they hadn't rushed the song in such an awkward manner. Such a fun, romantic, silly song full of the tension between wanting to be with the one you love, and not wanting to ruin your reputation. (I also have a soft spot in my heart for Glee's rendition of this song.)

On The [Rainboots & Beef] 12 Days of Christmas: Day One.

Yesterday, I told you about a new blog I'm starting beginning in January 2013. (But don't worry, R&B is sticking around. I'll continue the series' I started this year, and keep bringing you new content.)

But first, I have a new blog series to announce: The Rainboots & Beef 12 Days of Christmas.

Today is Day One:

1 Final Blogging Series of 2012.

This year I've launched two blogging series:

I have less than nine months to finish this one! I'll be giving you an update on this one on The Rainboots & Beef 12 Days of Christmas: Day Nine.

I'll continue to share with you as I make a valiant attempt at minimalism, and make the move out to Oregon in 2013!

The final blog series will chronicle milestones of the blog, things I personally accomplished this year, and some of my favorite Christmasy things. Stayed tuned!
