- I finished Prototype this month. I'm super stoked about this book; so stoked that we are using it for our upcoming new young adult small group. However, I also don't recommend reading the last chapter in public. It is so beautiful, and if you are reading it in the cafeteria at work you might have to hold back beautifulsobbytears.

- I was chosen to receive an advanced copy to review of Sarah Bessey's upcoming book, Jesus Feminist. I'm 34% of the way through, and while it isn't everything I hoped for, it is still wonderful. It is almost too academic and doesn't make me feel like I'm swimming through poetry like most of her blog posts do. Maybe she'll pull through somewhere in the last 66 percent. I'm share my full review when I'm finished reading.

- Adam downloaded a couple of books for me for my birthday: Evolving in Monkey Town and Surprised by Hope. I'm 17% of the way through Monkey Town, and I am really enjoying it! It's completely different than A Year of Biblical Womanhood, but it gives lots of background that make AYOBW make even more sense.

On television Netflix:

- We are in the middle of our one month free trial of Netflix, and holy cow PARENTHOOD! I somehow missed this show when it came out, but I've made up for it in the last week or so. Adam will even watch it with me! The problem is that with so many storylines, you'll identify with at least one, which gives you lots of FEELINGS!

- Big Brother. I should be ashamed, but I'm not. I've loved this show since high school! I'm definitely rooting for J-U-double-D-party-Daughtery!

- LOST. Adam and I watched the ENTIRE SERIES this summer EXCEPT the last two episodes. I think we got burnt out on the show, and just can't bring ourselves to finish it. Plus, I watched it when it was actually on tv, so I already know what happens.

More awesome stuff:

This is pretty much the best idea ever! An artist mom is letting her daughter finish her drawings!

Everyone at my alma mater is back in the classroom, and honestly I'm quite jealous. I miss being in school! I'm also super proud that their new president is a woman!

  1. I love Sara Bessey's blog - she is a feminist who doesn't make me feel bad about not knowing what the heck I am. So that makes me a little sad to hear her book doesn't read like her blog.

And Parenthood - one of the few shows I actually watch - though I missed part of season 3(?) I think. I love how Sarah is still pretty much Lorelai just in a different family.

    1. I think the problem with her book is that some chapters are almost exact excerpts from her blog, and then the next chapter reads like a research paper. It just isn't consistently HER voice, which could be the fault of editors. I'm not sure.

    2. Also, SO true about Lauren Graham's character! So awesome!

  2. Like your blog! I need to read Prototype - I've heard such great things about it. I am loving Sarah Bessey's book, but I agree that it seems inconsistent, and to me, it feels like editing. (I also don't think the cover matches the insides of the book). I do agree that its so much of her blog posts - excited to read her 2nd books she's now working on - she's really one of my favorite writers in the blogisphere.

  3. There's a great discussion of Prototype over at Kelley Nikondeha's blog. You should check it out! So funny that you made it all the way through Lost, except for the last 2 episodes. I was obsessed with that show and while I didn't love the ending, I didn't hate it either.

Thanks for linking up with What I'm Into!
